About Al Bayyinah

A non-profit Islamic Saturday school, serving St Albans and the wider community since March 2012.

Our story

It began with our own children.

We wanted what so many parents want: for our children to love their faith, feel confident in who they are and grow into kind, thoughtful people who contribute positively to the world around them.

We were looking for somewhere nurturing. A place where questions were welcomed, friendships could grow and our children could feel understood. Somewhere that would help them build a meaningful connection with Allah and find their place as young Muslims growing up in the UK.

That search led us to open Al Bayyinah in March 2012.

We share the hopes and challenges of the families who come through our doors because we are parents too. Our community has grown, but our purpose remains personal: to offer other children the care, encouragement and sense of belonging we wanted for our own.

البيّنة

Al Bayyinah means “the clear evidence”.

It is the name of the 98th surah of the Qur’an.

سورة البيّنة

Understanding the why.

Our children are growing up in a different world from the one we knew. We cannot anticipate every challenge they will face, but we can nurture the knowledge, character and judgement to help them find their way.

That means helping children learn deeply and think for themselves, guided by their faith. Alongside learning what Islam teaches and how to practise it, we explore why it matters.

  • Why do we pray?
  • Why should we be honest when nobody is watching?
  • What responsibility do we have towards our neighbours?

When children understand the purpose behind what they learn, their faith becomes more meaningful. Through Qur’an, Islamic Studies and Ilm2Amal, we connect knowledge with reflection and everyday action.

Our hope is that children leave us with a love of Allah and the Qur’an, confidence in their identity and a desire to contribute to the communities they call home.

Al Bayyinah is a non-profit school, sustained by our families’ fees and our team’s dedication. Seeking Allah’s pleasure is at the heart of our work.

Learn, Love and Live Islam.

Our vision

A generation of confident young Muslims who love their faith, understand its purpose and live it with kindness, courage and a desire to make a difference.

How we teach

Children drawing at a table on our Hajj day, with a Hajj worksheet and coloured pencils beside them.
  • Nurturing and creative

Children learn about Islam in a nurturing, creative way. Instead of calling actions good or bad, we talk about the things Allah (SWT) is pleased with, and the things He is not.

  • Showing the beauty of Islam

We build a love of Islam by showing children its beauty. When we teach about Jannah, we share the joy of a place where you can have whatever you wish, and the righteous path that leads there.

  • Learning through Allah’s creation

Wherever we can, we connect lessons to Allah’s (SWT) creation and provision, which helps children develop taqwa from a young age.

  • Following the Prophet’s example

Our teachers follow the way the Prophet ﷺ taught and cared for children, many of whom grew up to be outstanding companions and model Muslims.

Our values

Respect

Respect runs through everything we do: for every person, whatever their faith, background or culture, for our environment and for all of humanity.

Good character

We nurture honesty, integrity, compassion, piety and good manners, in our students’ deen and in every part of their lives.

Excellence

We expect students to do their best in everything, big or small, as “Verily Allah (SWT) has prescribed excellence in all things” (Muslim).
